lavieenrose art installation by daniella rubinovitz at paleis soestdijk

June: Royal June . . .

01 June in On-Line Journal

This topic is inspired, as my art installation, La Vie En Rose is installed front and center at Paleis Soestdijk. This is the former palace of the Dutch Royal Family. Queen Juliana lived here with her family for over 6 decades. Now it's open to the public as a museum to tour the palace and stroll around the abundant grounds. It's a fun get away for the day, especially as they offer family events throughout the season. This weekend was an art, jazz and wine event, and as you can see in my video above, the girls in their cute royal dresses running around the installation....

May: Holiday Plans . . .

01 May in On-Line Journal

It's the time that I ask myself: What do I desire for my next holidays? Sketching, biking, painting, walking, hiking, swimming, sculpting, writing, dancing, singing, socialising, solitude, culture, health, education, adventure? As I live in the city, my choice is often has to do with nature. This year this choice applies once again. A place abundant with the elements of earth, water, warmth and air. I want to be outdoors and in contact with nature. I want to feel a gentle breeze on my cheeks. ...

April: La Vie En Rose . . .

02 April in On-Line Journal

Time for spring cleaning on all levels. Metaphors here include cleaning our lenses and transforming them into positive perspectives. Seeing the glass as half full! This is the idea behind my art installation, Through Rose Colored Glasses / La Vie En Rose (yes, double titles). We can, from time to time, be influenced into seeing things from a perspective that is not in our highest and best good. Why would we do this? Convention? Fear? As a matter of fact, I bet that we could make a career out of watching what meanings and opinions could be made to just about anything. Yes, it would be fair to say that we, as humans, are meaning making machines. Mmmmm so if that's true, then we could choose to make meanings that benefit us vs. meanings that don't . . .still with me? Yes, we could look from a 'la vie en rose' perspective. This...

March: Sprouts

04 March in On-Line Journal

I love the feeling when the longer daylight hours become noticeable! (at least in the northern hemisphere) Yeah! This extends our possibilities of viewing blue skies (weather depending of course!). It's also the time to observe the budding sprouts make their debut! This is a continual process that goes hand in hand with choosing and letting go of projects wisely. Lately, I have been using the good 'ol 80% / 20% rule. There are countless variations of this rule. I like the idea to to spend 80% of my time on tasks and projects that steer my projects/ my life in the direction that I want. . .and in my highest and best. . . versus spending 80% on projects and tasks that only contribute 20% . . .which by the way can lead to major frustration and burnout! Such a simple, obvious thought right?! So easy to forget! ....

February: We Love Nonverbal Communication . . .

02 February in On-Line Journal

With Valentine's day just around the corner, the topic of nonverbal communication springs up in my mind! Painting from the heart. . . is the perfect way to express. Instead of merely relying on the spoken word, we can feel into the colors, the lines, the surfaces, the light and the dark. We can move fast or ssssllllllllooooooowwwwwlllllyyyy over the page. We can choose to weigh down heavy on to the page, or as fairy dust, skim the surface. We can choose to remove paint, or splatter more on! Mmmmm, yes! We can scratch into the paint. . .or rub it further into the material. We can use a brush, pallet knife, rollers, and any other tool around . . .though my favourite would be to use my hands. . .this is the most direct contact for art expression. ...

January: Creativity Rules This Year . . .

31 December in On-Line Journal

2017, and especially this month of January speaks all about beginnings. . .it speaks about priorities and making choices! This year, again, I choose for artistic creativity.. . .to lead the way into wackiness, making the impossible possible, whimsy's, serendipitous encounters. Whether this might be through the painting expression through colors, three dimensional sculpture of forms, singing and voice silliness, texture and material exploration, body awareness and movement. Each discipline has that beginning phase of awkwardness. That phase of. . .mmmm. . .i'm not so sure. . .what will others say? What about "looking good". .. what will they say. . .what if they discover that I too started from scratch! This can seem like a scary place to be....

December: A Silver Expression . . .

30 November in On-Line Journal

This time of year makes me feel the expressions of silver. Lets talk about Illumination, reflection, glamor and the feminine power. It is especially during these winter months, (in the northern hemisphere that is) where we don't have as many hours of the golden sunlight. Instead we get nurtured by the qualities of moonlight. The moon caries with it, the metaphor of the feminine energy. We can choose to tune into this calming and emotionally fluid, sensitive energy to hunker down and connect with our earthly reflection. Go ahead and feel what this difference might mean for yourself: moon energy instead of sun energy. Mmmmm . . . read more . . ....

November: Earthbound Color Explosions . . .

02 November in On-Line Journal

Let's for a moment examine the cause and effect of trees releasing its leaves and what we might learn from this. We are all pretty aware of the cycles of nature. Leaves, which capture all the nutrients from the light all spring and summer, are released in autumn in preparation for the winter months. During these months all the nursing energy will come from the ground up and nourish from inside out. Trees 'know' that as part of the cycle, spring will rebirth new leaves once again.. . .making it easy now, to let go of these precious leaves . . .read more . . ....

October: Natural Expression . . .

05 October in On-Line Journal

This month, observe the colors in nature. What kind of greens do we see. . .and what else. . .oranges. . .yellows. . .browns? Use these colors for your palette. rab your sketchbook now and forget about aesthetics! This is your sacred moment to express naturally. . .there is no should, could and would. . .instead there is lots of doing. . .action. . .playing and exploring. Release the emotions that come. . .let them be, whether that is laughing, crying. . .or perhaps. . .twitching!. . .read on!...

September: Creating your Masterpiece . . .

01 September in On-Line Journal

This month, see your life as a masterpiece! What do we need to create this masterpiece. . .(drumroll please. . ) a palette! Yes our palette is where we can collect and mix colors. . . thin the colors and play with textures. As a metaphor, sometimes we want to continue with the colors already on the palette, other times, we may prefer to have a whole new set of colors. It is especially exciting to try out just those colors that we have never tried before. . .or use those colors that we find ugly! September is a perfect time to learn something new, get out of our comfort zone, add skills or learn about new ways to expand your thinking. . .read on!...
