Inspired by my sculpture Butterfly Kiss, this large-scale mixed media painting explores transformation and layering—both material and emotional. The wooden panel is first preserved using a traditional Japanese burning technique (shou sugi ban), creating a textured, charred base. Over this, I built up multiple layers of paint, evoking the delicate structure of a butterfly. The result is a rich, dimensional surface where fragility meets resilience. The piece invites quiet contemplation, revealing new details with each viewing—like memories surfacing through time and texture.
