What color is your RED ? RED RED RED! Passionate fast red! This is the color that I am celebrating today! It is the color of FIRE, PASSION and LOVE. How absolutely appropriate for our 10 year wedding anniversary today, as I write this message to you!

Red is also the color of the sun fire and life itself! Looking closer at what is pumping vital life in our veins: blood. In Hebrew the word for blood and red are merely one letter away from each other.

Since colors are an expression of our EMOTION, there is a whole range of reds that move us. Have you ever noticed that the color red can evoke completely opposite emotions of each other. Think of romantic love and ultimate rage, happiness and anger. Depending on the SATURATION and BRIGHTNESS of a color (hue), it portrays different PSYCHOLOGICAL effects. So looking closer at a particular color from a healing aspect, it’s handy to group these qualities in three categories: I like to speak of free power, a stimulating strength, and a compulsive force. This is where we sense positive and negatives impression of a hue.

This in particular is my absolute fascination of colors, and how to be purposely moved by them! In my programs, I use the emotional meaning through color as a shift according to light, dark and composition within an environment. In our physical world, we have color all around us, and dynamics between the colors play relevant roles of color perception. Therefore when I diagnose an artwork, fashion, products and lights it is both the individual color combined with the surrounding that gives the complete impact.

Let’s look at the three categories of red. A red with inherent high intensity/ brilliance portrays a free power’s utmost inspiration. This red strength is set by ideals that inspire. Strength, persistence and passion are chosen over personal goals. This red is taken to the limit, not as a sacrifice for a higher goal, but as ultimate self-realization. We can speak of an incredible power that moves beyond personal power. Here I am referring to the force of power itself and there is no self denying here.

When we use a middle red, with a balanced brilliance, we are speaking of stimulating strength which brings out enthusiasm, wills power, initiation strength, confrontational, manifestation power, warmth, fire, passion and emotion. It also give us a sense of respect for what remains after a confrontation. We get reminded here of our own physical vitality and courage.

When we use a low intensity/ brilliance red, we get the feeling of a compulsive force, here we sense destructive qualities of the color, with primal, tyrannical and aggressive sexual impulses. Here we can imaging the crushing of others towards a goal. Seductive reds belong in this category. Generally, non positive qualities are often associated within this range when used on its own.

Having said that, generally when we talk about red, we are talking about the free and balanced red. This is the warmest colors of the color spectrum. Historically, red played its role throughout time and has been engraved within cultural considerations and perceptions. In prehistoric cultures, red was associated with the female principle. Mother Earth provided the Neolithic peoples with red ochre, the oldest pigment, which was credited with life-giving powers. In ancient Egypt, red, red madder lake and vermilion, was the color of life and of victory. Often Egyptian men were depicted as red. Ancient Greeks associated bright, luminous red with the male principle. Red was also represented the color of the Greek gods of war. In china red is the color for prosperity and joy, wedding dresses are also traditionally red. Front doors in china are also painted red for the same reason. The association of the red color with the female principle is still prevelant in Japan. Red is also the color of the planet mars, named after the god of war. I can go on an on about red used in various cultures. How is red used in your culture?

I also found it interesting when I was studying about pigments, that the color carmine red was traditionally produced from cochineal, tiny insects found in cacti in South America and Mexico. It has been commonly used in cosmetics: lipstick, blush, and eye shadow. Historically, cochineal was also used for healing purposes in soothing physical ailments ranging from headaches to heart problems!

So when speaking about the color red, I like to take the positive aspects and see how I can enhance my personal and business life. Please use the following as a take away to apply right now:

* Personally, it will give you the WILL for action to meet your 2011 GOALS!

* This FIRE ENERGY color can increase ENTHUSIASM and interest for your marketing material.

* Red is associated with our first root CHAKRA, all about grounding, and can over win our internal battles of fear and anxieties. This is a CONFIDENCE booster to help us feel vital in our body!

* PRESENTATIONS coming up? Wearing red creates DRAMA, EXCITEMENT and FUN, just an accent of red can do the trick. As a dominant color, it will draw in your listener’s eye.

* Wearing red shows a sense of boldness and dynamics. Wearing it shows a sense of PLEASURE SEEKING, and see for yourself the degree of this stimulation that you want to communicate!
