Tangerine Peels (Mobile Sculpture)

The Concept

The concept of this piece is to admire tangerine peels, a part of nature that we consider waste. Tangerine peels contain vitamins and nutrients that are more beneficial for our health than the fruit itself. In this tree mounted installation, tangerine peels have been enlarged and cut out of thick, natural wool felt sheets backed by wires. Tangerine peels and wool are both materials that provide nurturing and protection. The health benefits of tangerine peels are less widely recognized than that of wool.

The sculptures coincidentally resemble fantasy creatures, resulting in a whimsical installation partially wrapping around tree branches. It serves as an awareness and as a reminder of the joy and potential in discarded organic waste. It offers an intriguing contrast of juicy, nutritious and whimsical energy within the urban environment.
